As Leftists go, those native to the Peoples Republic of
Boulder are well left of even Michael Moore or Ted Kennedy. In fact the infamous Ward Churchill is
conservative by local standards.
The City Fathers can’t figure out why the US still has
soldiers in Iraq because they passed a resolution to bring them home. The local
University even had a plan in place under its previous President to abolish all
intercollegiate sports and replace them with club sports. Take your bike to
work day is every day and the streets are populated with nearly as many bikes
per capita as Beijing.
Nowhere is the counter of military losses in Iraq more a
centerpiece of whining.
Every year the most faithful from the Republic answer the
call to climb on their bikes and soak in nature, gravel and bugs in a ride
sponsored by left of the New York Times, Denver Post across the Rocky Mountain half of the state of Colorado.
These last two seemingly disconnected thoughts once again
confirm that Liberal Logic is an Oxymoron. You see liberals only see the world
from the most obvious, superficial and wrong perspective.
Reach beyond the cold number of 2,500 we have lost in
Iraq/Afghanistan and put it in perspective. In 40 months with 150,000 soldiers
on the ground the mortality rate has been 492 per 100,000 per year. While this compares favorably to the 1,162
per 100,000 mortality rate for a 60 year old like myself it remains higher than
for 25 year olds state side.
Now lets look at the bike ride. In 21 years with 2,000
riders each year riding 5 days each year 210,000 biking days were accumulated. Extrapolate the 3 fatalities on the ride
over this period and you have a mortality rate of 520 per 100,000 per year.
The obvious irony is that many of the anti-war
fanatics from the Republic participate themselves in activities that are more
hazardous than the hero’s bringing freedom to Iraqis.
